My name is Gabrielle and i am a potter based out of Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada. I make functional pottery for everyday use. I really enjoy eating and drinking out of beautiful pottery and i hope i can create the feeling of happiness and wellness with my pottery.

I moved to BC from Quebec twelve years ago for the beauty of the mountains and stayed for the creative inspiration which they bring. Working with clay has always intrigued me but it wasn’t until seven years ago that I took my first ceramics class. As my hands started playing with the clay I knew right away this is the medium I want to use to express myself.  I find working on the wheel mesmerizing, and since starting it’s all I can think about. I continued taking classes and private instruction and began making hanging planters to blend my love of plants and nature with my art. This was a natural fit as I’ve been working outdoors as a tree planter since living in BC.

Inspirations

I am a very colorful and active person and i wanted to translate that into my pottery. I have always been a fan of Scandinavian design with simple shapes and plain colors. My color pallet is always in movement as i am working on developing new glazes year round. Some of my glazes will disappear with time as new ones will develop. I like to have a timeless pottery with simple shapes that adapt to how i am feeling. 

 

 

A bit more about me

I lived in Quebec until i finished my degree in geography in 2006. I had enough of school back then so i decided to go on a trip around the globe. I had the chance to visit South America, Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, India and Nepal. After a couple years away from my home country i felt like i needed to reconnect with my family and found myself back in Canada. I came out west once again for work and decided to spend the winter in Revelstoke. After 12 years of being here i still can not believe how lucky i am. I get to work planting trees in bc, and make pots in between planting seasons. I am slowly transitioning to a full time potter right now but planting trees has helped me balance my urge of moving and being outside with my creative side. I am blindly in love with a great man, Jean-Baptiste, that i met, when I was 18, the first time i came out to B.C. It was only in 2010 that our paths crossed again. My partner is here for a lot and Monashee Pottery wouldn't be what it is without him. He is doing everything for this business from sanding, to giving opinions on products, to building shelves, to fixing kilns and always supporting me in harder times.
